Step 1
Submit your blog or website to as many free search engines as time permits. You can submit your site once every 2-3 months but don't try to submit it too often because you will be rejected for spamming.

Find the top blogs and websites and comment on their articles, bulletin boards, message boards, etc. When you comment you are linked to that particular website and Alexa will actually list your site as being linked in to that very popular website and this improves your overall ranking.
Your information page on Alexa will show, for example '50 Sites Linking In' .. The number 50 will be a hyperlink, click on the link and you will see all 50 sites that your website or blog is linked to. I was pleasantly surprised with the sites that I was linked to but I wasn't sure how this occurred until I followed the link and it led to comments I made on bulletin boards, message boards, and forums! -
Step 3
Set aside 2-3 hours per week to just comment on popular blogs and websites. It's a good idea to make favorable comments because you don't want to get your comment deleted. This works wonders for getting the exposure you so desire for your website, and you can get this publicity without spamming.
