The enemy.
The enemy.

They buzz in your ear, foul your food; maybe even bite or sting you. Maybe you wouldn't kill a fly or maybe you're just not into cleaning up that splattered mess after you smoosh them. There is an alternative to getting rid of the flying insects that invade your house.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • wide mouthed jar or plastic container
  • sheet of cardboard

Warmer weather approaches, and with it unfortunately; sometimes comes creepy crawlies of the flying variety. I'm probably kinder to animals than the average person- but I stop short of being Gandhi. If a mosquito is doing its vampire bit; or a fly is buzzing in my ear, I'll put it out of my misery. Sometimes, though, the little suckers are pretty adept at evading the swatter or you don't want to get stung or clean up the resulting mess from dispatching a bee, moth or larger insect.

  2. Step 2
Nyah, nyah; come and get me! Buzzzzzzzz........

THE STRATEGY: Wait for the insect to land on a surface like a wall or window. Slowly approach with a jar or similar container in one hand and a sheet of cardboard in the other. When you come within striking distance - quickly put the open end of the jar over the bug.

  3. Step 3
The POW ready to be released.

Slide the cardboard under the open end of the jar, keep holding jar and cardboard tightly together, open the door and let that sucker go!

Tips & Warnings
  • One of the more satifying aspects of this method is hearing the muffled buzzing of the captured bug.
  • Even more fun is that the perplexed bug when released will fly away in ever growing concentric circles until it realizes it's free.

  • Clean your capture device thoroughly if you intend to use it for anything else later.
