Step 1
Make sure your jeans fit your body properly near your waist. Many jeans that are cut for younger aged people (those found in the juniors department) are made for people with few curves. If you have curves, no matter your age, you will probably do better shopping in the ladies department instead of the juniors. Ladies jeans have a slightly higher rise that will reduce the "muffin top" issues where your tummy bulges over the waistband. They will also reduce having your underwear stick out of the back of your pants when you squat down or bend over because they are cut for people with hips and a smaller waist. Now, that does not mean you should purchase jeans that hit above your belly button. Jeans that have a waistband slightly below the belly button work well for most people.

Step 2
Avoid jeans that are skinny in the ankles. These jeans accentuate your hips and tummy. Select jeans that are the same width in the ankles as in the thigh to streamline your body.

Step 3
For a classic look, avoid too much distressing and embellishments. A dark straight leg jean works best on most people.

Step 4
Try on lots of jean styles to figure out what looks best on you. Just because it looks great on your friend does not mean it will look great on you.

Step 5
If you are still having problems finding jeans at a store to fit your body, you can get custom jeans. There are several companies on the internet that offer custom jeans with many different options to choose from.
