Get educated. There are actually no formal classes or courses required in order to become an insurance adjuster, however taking certain classes can help you advance more quickly and get a head start to a great career.
If you're still in college or about to enter college, you will need to take some important courses to help you become an independent insurance adjustor. Finance and business classes are extremely important. Because you will most likely often be working with witnesses and other individuals, classes which help you become more people-oriented can be helpful as well.

Obtain additional training. If you are not in college and you still want to become an independent insurance adjustor, the online courses above can help. It's also advisable to work with an actual insurance company before becoming an independent adjustor, because you gain several things. First and foremost, you will gain experience needed in order to complete your job properly. Secondly, you will gain knowledge that will be helpful in your own independent career. Visit any training seminars or work camps that come to your area as well, in an effort to stay up to date with the insurance industry.

Obtain your insurance adjuster license. After you have taken and passed the required courses, you will need to obtain an insurance adjuster license. Each state has different requirements regarding insurance adjusters. If you plan on working with an insurance company, some states do not require you to be individually licensed, but in order to become an independent insurance adjuster, you should obtain a license.

Obtain even more certifications. Once you have been working as an insurance adjuster for a while, there are chances for you to learn more and advance your career.
