Grow Your Own Herb Garden

Even if you don't have a green thumb, you should give this green project a try.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, stock up on a few supplies - a large planter, some organic potting soil and several different herbs.

  2. Step 2

Put most of the soil in your new pretty planter. Reserve some soil for filling in after planting.

  3. Step 3

Begin planting your herbs. I like to buy the ones that come in their own peat pots which means less trash in the landfills and less transplant shock (at least that is what the label said). After removing the bottom of the peat pots and loosening the roots, simply placed them in the soil. Be sure to arrange the plants in the pot so that the larger plants can hang over the side.

  4. Step 4

Add a bit more soil to fill in around the plants. Give the herbs a generous amount of water. Remember to water daily and keep in sun as directed on the plants.

Tips & Warnings
  • When the herbs get bigger they may be need to be moved to my larger garden, but to start it is perfect to have them on hand whenever your recipe calls for fresh herbs. Not only are you being green but you are also saving green. Each plant costs about what a small pack of the herbs costs at the grocery store. Plus, by having them outside your door you save the planet by reducing the packaging and shipping. It is a win-win!
