Things You'll Need:
- Catcher's gear
- A pitcher
-
Step 1
To begin, the catcher should get into his normal catching stance. The knees should be slightly apart, and he should have good posture. It helps to sit slightly back on the heels when giving signs.
-
Step 2
Next, the catcher should make sure the other team, opposing base coach, etc can't see his signals. Keep the knees pointed towards the pitcher so only he can see the signals.
-
Step 3
When giving signals, the catcher should keep his signal hand tucked in as much as possible. He should not let his fingers drop below his body, or the other team may pick up the signals.
-
Step 4
When giving signals, there are some standard signs that most teams use:
A one (1) is a fastball.
A two (2) is a curve ball.
A three (3) is a slider
A four (4) is the change up.
