Give and receive peace on Earth Day.

A wonderful and healing way to celebrate Earth Day is to invite people to a pleasant outdoor space and guide them through a relaxing meditation that will bring joy to the people and the planet. Here's how to do it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Set a date
  • Printed flyers
  • Email addresses, contacts to invite
  • An inspiring passage out of a book to read
  1. Step 1

SET THE TIME AND DATE. Earth Day is April 22nd. If you would like to invite stay-home-moms or other people that are flexible during the day, then set a morning or afternoon time for your meditation. If you would like to invite people with 9-5 schedules, a 6 p.m. meditation will give them time to get there.

  2. Step 2

CHOOSE A LOCATION. The local park, lake or ocean are wonderful places to host your meditation. Somewhere peaceful and where you can receive some privacy and quietness so your group won't feel disturbed.

  3. Step 3

CREATE AND DISTRIBUTE INVITATIONS. You can pass out paper flyers in your community, get the word out through emails, on your Facebook or other social media pages, use online invitation services like evite.com. If you'd like to know how many people plan on coming, request an R.S.V.P.

  4. Step 4

DECIDE WHETHER YOU WANT TO CHARGE OR HOST A FREE MEDITATION. Some public parks and beaches have rules about whether you can charge for services you provide on the property, so inquire before you do. If you do want to charge, anywhere from $5-$15 is fair, either paid to you for your hosting service or to donate to an earth-supportive charity like the Sierra Club.

  5. Step 5

CHOOSE A FOCUS FOR YOUR MEDITATION. Do you want to send healing to the earth? Meditate on gratitude? Send appreciation to all the living things? Visualize world peace and a totally green planet? Once you decide on what you would like to focus on, you may want to rehearse a 15-60 minute meditation that will lead the group.

  6. Step 6

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER. Start off by having everyone close their eyes and take deep breaths, in and out through their nose. Ask them to connect to the nature around them and notice the sounds and sensations. Then begin guiding them to a beautiful visualization, read an inspiring passage out of a book like Whitman's Leaves of Grass, or simply have them continue to breathe in silence, remaining focused on the sensations around them.

  7. Step 7

HOW TO END YOUR MEDITATION. Ask everyone to give thanks to the planet for all the food, air and shelter she provides and to slowly open their eyes when they are ready.
