Learn how to get natural highlights, and won't have to waste money at the salon. Everyone has natural streaks of color in their hair. You just need to know the right methods for bringing out your highlights. Certain tricks work better than others. Here's how to get natural highlights:

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

People often inhibit their natural highlights through improper hair care. Remember to keep your mane well-moisturized and protected from heat. This might mean using a few more products, and less of your blow-dryer.

  2. Step 2

Use a swim cap when you're in chlorinated pools and Jacuzzis, and always wash your hair right after you get out. This will prevent damage from chemicals. Blondes will develop a greenish hair tint from chlorine.

  3. Step 3

Have fun in the sun! Once you have healthy hair, UV rays are the best natural lightener. Blondes can squeeze lemon juice in their hair before heading outside. Brunettes and redheads shouldn't bother with lemons.

  4. Step 4

Take care of your hair. Eat foods that will make it gleam (e.g., yogurt, eggs, green vegetables, seeds, bran foods), and give it an egg bath once a month. Also get your mane trimmed every 3 months to keep it healthy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Blow-dry your hair on the "cool" setting.
  • Let egg soak in your hair for half an hour.
