Don’t feel embarrassed if you can’t recognize the power on button on your laptop computer. Going from a desktop to laptop computer can be disorienting at first. The follow steps will help you recognize the power on button on a laptop and how to press it correctly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Laptop
  1. Step 1

Getting a laptop for the first time can be a stressful experience. Laptops are more fragile than desktop computers and their keyboards are arranged differently and have different touch sensitivity. This initial fear or stress from encountering a mysterious new tech product can make that POWER ON button, mysteriously disappear.

  2. Step 2

The POWER ON button is usually located on the top left, center or right of the keyboard. It is normally a dime-sized round button, and on most computers has a round circle icon (see illustration).

  3. Step 3

The laptop is turned on by pressing this button down once with a firm pressure.

  4. Step 4

The laptop usually takes a few minutes to start-up. So, be patient!

  5. Step 5

If you are impatient and press the button more than once, the computer will start–up and shut-down before any image appears on the screen. This might make you assume there is something wrong with your laptop and even lead you to pressing the POWER button a few more times, believing this will eventually POWER ON the laptop. If you make this mistake, just wait calmly for a few minutes (minutes, really, not seconds), and see if the laptop starts-up.

  6. Step 6

If not, press down on the POWER ON button with a steady pressure. ONCE!

  7. Step 7

After those few patient minutes your start-up screen will faithfully appear!

Tips & Warnings
  • Press the POWER button down firmly once.

on 4/20/2009 I got mine on but took awhile to figure out that I needed to slide a button over on the front in order to connect to the internet. These new gadgets can be difficult to figure out sometimes, especially when the instructions are in Chineese and Spanish.
