Things You'll Need:
- hair accessory of your choice (bobby pin, hair clip, headband, or barrette)
- beads of your choice
- beading string or wire
- scissors or wire cutter
- thin elastic strip
- craft glue

Step 1
** Make a homemade beaded bobby pin **
Homemade beaded bobby pins are easy to create. To decorate the bobby pin, simply attach beads to the top of the bobby pin using one of these methods:
A. You can simply pull beads through the top part of the bobby pin and glue the end so they don't fall out.
B. You can make beaded bobby pins by gluing beads on to the top.
C. Take a bead string or wire and cut it to just a bit bigger than the length of the bobby pin. Secure one side and pull the beads through until you have a row of beads a little shorter than the length of the bobby pin. Secure the other end of the string or wire. Place a few drops of glue on the bobby pin and attach the beaded string. -
Step 2
** Make homemade beaded hair clips **
Beaded hair clips are also easy to create. Unlike bobby pins which all you have to work with is a straight line, hair clips start off narrow and get wide at the end, which gives more room for beading.
Some nice designs for a homemade beaded hair clip are:
A. Glue a strip of small beads across the entire top of the hair clip. You can glue each individually or simply place glue along the entire hair clip and dip it in a bowl of small beads.
A. Glue a single dominant looking bead on the wide end of the hair clip.
B. Glue a strip of small beads on both sides of the hair clip and glue a matching large bead at the wide end. -
Step 3
** Make homemade beaded headbands **
Homemade beaded headbands are fun to make because, unlike most other hair accessories, there is a lot of space to work with.
Some methods for creating beaded headbands include:
A. Start with a simple headband, preferably with a simple fabric covering. Glue beads onto the headband in whatever style you choose. For example, alternate rows of black beads with rows of white beads, or glue beads in diagonal lines running across the top of the headband.
B. Bead a string of beads securing both ends so the beads don't fall off. Take the string and wrap it around making loops around the headband starting where the headband meets the top of one ear and ending where the headband meets the top of the other ear.
C. Pull a beading string or wire around your head starting from below one ear to below the second ear. Bead a string of large beads onto the beading string or wire and secure both ends very well. Take two pieces of elastic. For each side of the string or wire, knot an elastic strip onto the string or wire right above the last bead so that the last bead will keep the elastic from sliding down. (Tie the elastic strip into a knot and make sure it is secure.) Pull the beaded wire and elastic around your head and tie the elastic in the middle so that it feels snug. -
Step 4
** Make a homemade beaded ponytail holder **
To make a homemade ponytail holder, follow these steps:
A. Take a thin strip of elastic a few inches long (length depends on your hair type and amount of hair you wish to tie up with the ponytail holder)
B. String beads through the elastic string, leaving about 2 inches empty space and secure both ends.
C. Pull the beaded elastic around your ponytail.
D. Tie the elastic so that if fits tightly around your hair.
E. Once the elastic is tied, you can remove the homemade ponytail holder and use it again for future use. -
Step 5
** Make a homemade beaded barrette **
Barrettes take on many shapes and sizes. To make a homemade beaded barrette, buy a simply barrette without decorations and use any of the methods above to decorate it. (Choose method above based on barrette shape and size.)
