Make Card Boxes for Wedding Receptions

Couples often display their wedding card boxes on the gift table, right when their guests enter the reception. Therefore, it is important that your monetary cards stay safe and in one place by putting them in a decorative box. These are some tips to help you make and decorate a satin-covered card box that could double as box for your wedding keepsakes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Remove the cover off of the box. Using your sharp scissors, cut a slot in the cover that is large enough for an average size card to slide through, around 9 inches long and 3/4-inch thick. You may cut your slit anywhere on the cover you would like, but the center often looks the most natural.

  2. Step 2

Loosely cover your box with the satin to best position the fabric, and decide where to put your seams. Using your glue gun, attach the satin material to the box and cover separately. Spray the box with your glue gun and then press the satin down, pressing out any creases or wrinkles, form seams on the bottom or back of the box where they will not be seen. Make sure you fold the fabric to the inside to keep it looking neat on the outside.

  3. Step 3

Turn the top cover upside down, and carefully cover the area around the slot with satin material, forming four flaps. Fold the flaps to the inside of the lid and secure with your glue gun.

  4. Step 4

Secure the cover to the box with some double-sided tape on the inside of the lid. Remember, you need to be able to remove the lid at a later time, so don't tape it too tightly.

  5. Step 5

Decorate the area around your center slot with pearls or other preferred beads, forming a square around the slot. You may also wish to add some satin ribbon around your box.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may wish to secure your box to the gift table with something heavy to prevent it from moving from side to the other, or to prevent someone from stealing your cards.
