Once you finish hanging drywall it is time to smooth over the seams in between each sheet by using drywall mud. After you mud drywall seams you can successfully move on to painting your new smooth walls. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 4" Drywall Knife
  • Wallboard tape
  • 12" wallboard knife

Instructions

    • 1

      Take the 10" drywall knife and slide it over the seam. Wherever you feel it hit the head of a screw or nail, stop and tighten the screw so the head is below the surface of the wall.

      Next take the 4" drywall knife and take some of the mixed drywall mud and starting from the ceiling smear the mud over the seam and screws in a thin even layer.

      Once you mud the drywall seam immediately take the drywall tape and using your hand gently press it onto the seam over the mud.

      Taking the 4" drywall knife smooth the tape down even with the drywall. Start in the middle and work your way out to the ends. You will likely squeeze some of the mud out of the seam. Wipe this off your knife periodically. Let this dry over night.

      The next use the 12" drywall knife to apply mud over the seam in a very thin smooth layer. Let this dry overnight. Repeat this step at least twice.

      Use either drywall sand paper or a sanding sponge to smooth the mud drywall seams.
