Fix and Replace Window Screens
Fix and Replace Window Screens

Explains how to fix and replace window screens yourself.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Window screens are nice to have which let the warm breezes of a nice warm sunny day come into your house. But what if your window screen is ripped or broken. You most likely will not use that screened window and what this does is lets flying insects in your house and it just does not look good. Here is a way to fix and or replace your window screen. You can get window screen and rubber stripping at your local hardware store.Buy screen that is wide enough for your window. The tools you need are small flathead screwdriver, utility knife, screen roller tool and screen. The screen that is easier to work with is the nylon screen.

  2. Step 2

You do not need to remove the window, all you need to do is lift or push down other windows to get to the screened window. There should be plenty of room to replace the screen.Your window screen has a thin strip of rubber that goes along the edges in a groove and holds the screen in place on the window frame.Which is located on the inner part near the edges of your window. This rubber stripping can be taken out with a small screw driver by prying it out,try not to break it because you can use it again.

  3. Step 3

After you bought the new window screen. What you do is measure the width and height of where the new screen is going to go on the window.Whatever the measurement is add a couple of inches on all sides. Before you put the measurement on and mark the new screen put newspaper underneath so you do not put marks on where you are working.then measure that same measurement onto the new screen and using a yard stick or a long straight edge, draw a line from each mark you made on the screen. So you know where to cut.

  4. Step 4

After the new screen is cut and ready to be put back on the window.Get the screen instalation tool and the rubber screen strip.Put the screen on the window,Use tape to hold the top of the screen on the top of the window.Make sure you have enough screen overlapping on each side. Then you can start to put the rubber sripping back.Start at the top of the window, put one corner of the stripping over the screen in the groove on one corner of the window.Put the stripping roller tool on the screen and stripping and put a lttle pressure while pushing the rubber strip in the groove going all around the window. After the screen is in place on all sides,if you have any extra screen hanging over on each side get your utility knife and cut on the outside of the stripping all around.
