So you need a pair of double pointed knitting needles, but you just don't want to spend the money. One method for making your own pair of double pointed knitting needles is by using wooden chopsticks as the base.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Find a set of wooden chopsticks that match as close to the circumference of the needles that you need in order to make the sweater, scarf, or whatever garment you want to make. You can do this by matching them to an actual pair of knitting needles that are not double pointed.

  2. Step 2

With a whittling knife that wood carvers use whittle each chopstick so that the ends are pointed, but not too pointed.

  3. Step 3

If your chopsticks are not perfectly round, you'll also need to whittle the sides as well.

  4. Step 4

Finally, to smooth out your project, take sand paper and rub your chopsticks until the yarn flows smoothly on and off the needles.
