If you want to beat someone playing checkers you have to outthink them. That is how checkers is won. So that means you have to look at the board, and think 1 or 2 steps ahead. Think to yourself i move here, what moves can my opponent make. Whoever controls the center controls the game. So keep a strong defense and dont leave your pieces out in the open. The last thing you want in checkers is to move to an open position, which is where you can be jumped. The closed position is where your piece cannot be jumped. The more "open" pieces the more danger there is to lose. Obviously you cannot keep all your pieces all the time in closed position, but you must strive for this.

  2. Step 2

A rule of thumb is to stick to the sides of the board. That is the safest place for your pieces, in the middle there is a lot of space. The strategy i use is i want to get the game down to as few pieces as possible. I dont like when there are a lot of pieces to look at, so i strategically make the opponent jump me.

  3. Step 3

always look for positions that could leave your piece open. Your goal should always be, to get to the other side of the board. Who ever gets kinged first has the advantage. Also you want to keep in mind, your other goal is to take as many pieces as possible. It is okay simetimes to sacrafice a piece for better position, sometimes this is beneficial. But too many losses leave you at a disadvantage. You want to send your pieces, to wherever the opponent has the least amount of pieces. So if you have an opening in the left side, start working all your pieces in that direction. Be cautious though, dont get sloppy sending them over. I have a record of 478 wins and 274 losses. Using this strategy that i have outlined here.

Tips & Warnings
  • Think before you move, what happens if i move here or here.
  • Dont get sloppy, look at all your possible moves.
