In order to use this permit you must have a friend or someone you know that has a New Jersey motorcycle license. Remember, they must be a NJ motorcycle driver. They will be your guardian when you practice, using their own motorcycle along side yours. Make sure you are insured on your new motorcycle. You can apply for your Motorcycle license after you have your permit for at least 20 days. Take the time to practice as you will need it if you take the road test.

There are two ways you can choose from to get your NJ Motorcycle License. You can apply to get your license after you have completed a road test at one of the assigned places in your area. NJ DMV can give you a list of acceptable locations. You can also take a motorcycle safety course and if passed this will serve as your doorway to your license. The choice is yours to take the road test or the safety course.

Once you have completed one of the above, then you can go back to the motor vehicle agency with a stamped permit, proof of the road test passing grade or safety school passing grade and 6 point ID verification (yes again!). The license fee for motorcycles is currently $24.00.
