How to Fix Hardwood Floors

You can fix the hardwood floor, if you have a floating hardwood floor click together the fix might be easy if this is a sold hardwood floor you will have to fix the damage and then refinish the floor.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • carpenter hand tools
  • power saws
  • sanders
  • extra wood floor boards
  1. Step 1

    Find out what have caused the damage. If this is a water leak , fix it before you fix the floor, if you can not find out what have damage the floor call the professional floor contractor.

  2. Step 2

    Take off the baseboards and pull the boards that are right by the wall. Pull up and the board should just disconnect. Pulling the boards up and folding you should remover the floor until you get the damage area.

  3. Step 3

    Take off all the boards that are damage and install new boards. You have to have the same flooring, made by the same manufacturer. If the color differs a little bit this is due to the light exposure. Wood change color if exposed to the light.

  4. Step 4

    Install the rest of the floor you might be able to reuse the old boards.

  5. Step 5

    Put the baseboards back.

  6. Step 6

    If the color of new boards are very much diffrent then the old ones you have to refinish the floor.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you fix the cause of the problem before you fix the floor
  • Make sure this floor can be refinished. Make sure that the top layer of the wood is thick enough to sand
  • If the floating floor is glue together then it will be a harder job to disconnect the boards.
  • If this is glue floating then you cannot reuse the old floorboards.
