After applying to numerous work at home jobs, finally you hear back from someone offering you the job or asking for more details. It's a great feeling to see that email in the inbox. But before you go ahead and accept the job or send in personal details, find out everything you can about the company. This way you will be sure that you are dealing with a legitimate company and can avoid getting scammed.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet Connection
  1. Step 1

Enter the name of the company in any search engine. It should give a list of pages with the name of the company. It is logical that a company seeking a telecommuter would have a website. If you don't find a website, be cautious in you dealings. If you find the website of the company you can find out where it is located, what they do, who is the owner, the phone numbers etc.

  2. Step 2

If you know the name of the person you have applied to or one you will be communicating with, search on that name or their email. Many professionals today will have a linked in page with their bio. If you are dealing with a scammer you will see their email address crop up everywhere.

  3. Step 3

Check domain name (e.g. www.companyname.com) registration on www.whois.com. This may give you further information about who the domain name is registered to. But keep in mind sometimes legitimate companies will buy domains privately since they do not want to be spammed.

  4. Step 4

Rip-off Report, Better Business Bureau great places to check if there are any complaints filed against the company and if yes what action the company has taken to rectify it. Some legitimate companies may not be registered with BBB. You can also check on Scam.com if the company or the job is a scam.
