How to Make a Bean Bag

A bean bag is a fun little toy that has been around a long time. It is something soft that kids can safely throw around or pass around in a circle during a game of "hot potatoe". You can make a bean bag as big or small as you want! You can sew this by hand or use a sewing machine for a speedy finish. Make this bean bag any size you want!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Fun cotton fabric of your choice
• thread
• sewing machine or sewing needle
• dry beans
• scissors

1. 
    
   making a beanbag is easy!

   Fold your fabric in half and with the right sides facing each other. Cut out a square on the folded edge, leaving the fold intact. When you are done cutting you should have a rectangle.

   Make sure the folded rectangle is square and the edges and corners are lined up evenly.

3. 
    

   Sew up two of the open sides of the bean bag. Then sew the remaining open side halfway, leaving an opening. Flip your bean bag right side out so the seams are inside the bean bag.

   Pour beans into the opening of the bean bag. Don't fill too full otherwise the bean bag will be very stiff and hard.

5. 
    

   At the opening, turn the raw edges of fabric into the bean bag to create a clean edge and sew shut. That's it!

Tips & Warnings

• For a giant bean bag, use the same directions, but fill with Styrofoam packing peanuts instead. Giant bean bags can be used as a bean bag chair to create a cozy reading spot in a kids bedroom.
• Make a large version of this with Styrofoam peanuts to create a bean bag bed for your pet!
