Explains a way to fix a hole in your wall.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If you have a hole in your old horse hair plastered wall or sheetrock wall, you can do this yourself.Any size hole can be fixed. Here is a way to fix bigger holes in your wall. The tools you need to fix your walls are sheetrock, tape measure, joint compound tape, flat scraper to apply joint compound, pencil,Medium grit sandpaper, joint compound, sheetrock screws, sheetrock knife, drill with phillips head bit.

  2. Step 2

To get the right size sheetrock you would need to measure the thickness of the wall that needs repair. The thickness of the wall is usually 1/2 inch. But check to make sure.If you are repairing a hole in an old horse hair plaster wall, there are slats behind the horse hair plaster which does take up some of the thickness of the wall.So you would need a thin sheet of sheet rock to repair that hole to make the wall even and the slats are good because you will have something to screw the sheetrock into.

  3. Step 3

The size sheetrock screws you need are 1 inch screws. If you have a round or oddly shaped hole in your sheet rock wall. How you start to repair it is you find out where the studs are on each side and you need to cut a square hole from the middle of 1 stud to the other and an inch from the top of the hole and an inch from the bottom.Do this only if the hole is in the center of the studs. But if the hole is near a stud cut the square hole evenly on one side and the other side of the stud.Go slow and be carefull of any electrical wires.

  4. Step 4

When you have the square hole cut out, measure the square hole from left to right and up and down. Now go to the sheetrock sheet you bought to repair the hole and measure the size of the square hole from the wall onto the new sheetrock sheet, mark the width and height with the pencil and draw lines from each mark and cut the new piece for your wall out.

  5. Step 5

After you have cut the new square piece.Get your drill with the philips head bit on it and screws.Put the new piece in the square hole in the wall and drill 2 screws through the sheetrock into the studs on each side or if just 1 stud. After the hole is filled in with the new sheetrock piece.Get the join compound tape, joint compound and flat scraper and apply some compound over the seams.Put a good amount over the seams. Then with tape, measure the seams and cut the pieces of tape.

  6. Step 6

Put the pieces of tape on the compound which is on the seams and push the tape in the compound. Then get the flat scraper to press the tape evenly with the wall.Push the tape in start from the middle and press the tape in going to one side then go back to the middle and press the tape in going to the other side. You start from the middle so the tape won't move.If you started from 1 side to the other, you would be moving the tape away, you might need to put some pressure to press the tape in even. There should be joint compound coming out from under the tape. After all the tape is even with the walls.Get more compound and go over all the tape and evenly from one sie to the other. You would need to let this dry for 1 day. Then the next day you sand the dry compound a little then put another thin coat on,then again let that dry for a day. Then sand again the next day.

  7. Step 7

When all of this is dry and even, you can put primer and paint the wall.
