Things You'll Need:
- Baby
- Floor
-
Step 1
You cannot start this process until your baby can get on all fours with both knees on the floor, trunk off the floor, and both hands on the floor. To encourage this, give the baby lots of tummy time.
-
Step 2
If your baby just cannot get up on all fours, help her realize that body position by providing support under her trunk with a rolled up towel.
-
Step 3
Assess what items highly motivate your baby. These are the items they cry for, play with for minutes at a time, or get very excited about. For my baby, it was an empty water bottle. For others, it is keys, bottles, sippy cups, a binky, toy or lovey.
-
Step 4
Place this item just out of the baby's reach. He will reach for it. You can hold your hands behind his fit so that when he kicks it will propel him forward.
-
Step 5
Demonstrate for the baby how you can crawl. Spend a lot of time on the floor. And keep favorite items out of reach. Your baby will crawl!
