This technique is a combination of natural remedy and medical treatment. If repeated regularly, it should knock out cat ear mites within a month. You will need to repeat this treatment every three or four days. If the ear mites persist, take your cat to a vet.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mineral Oil
  • Animal Safe Insecticide
  • Warm Water
  • Cotton Balls
  1. Step 1

Firstly, you need to clean the cats ears to remove as many mites as possible. Put a few drops of mineral oil in to the cats ear canal. Gently rub the oil in to break up any crusty debris. This will also immobilize the ear mites and prevent them from fleeing in to the fur of the cat.

  2. Step 2

Take a cotton ball (not a cotton swap, you could puncture the ear drum) and gently clean out the oil and debris. You can repeat this if you can still see debris in the ear. Debris from mites is very fine and brown dirt.

  3. Step 3

Now that you've cleaned out some mites, you need to kill the ones that are left. Drop in a few drops of insecticide that you have purchased from the pet store and is safe for cats. Follow the directions closely, treating and massaging the ear and then wiping away the excess.

  4. Step 4

Reinfestations can occur very easily because mites are contagious and breed rapidly. Continue for at least three treatments, more if needed to make sure the mites are gone. If they are still returning after a month, take your cat to the vet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wrapping your cat in a towel can prevent you from getting scratched up while treating him or her.
  • Ear mites are not actually harmful to your cat, the harmful part is if they have scratched their ears and cut themselves, as the cuts can get infected. Keep an eye out for any sores.
