When using Daz 3d Software, sooner or later you are going to want the visible lights in your 3d scene to glow, like real ones do. The point of 3d art is to make it look as realistic as possible. This Daz Studio 3d software tutorial will show you how to make the lights in your 3d artwork come to life.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Daz Studio 3d Software
  1. Step 1

Start up Daz Studio and create your 3d scene. For this tutorial, I have made a simple 3d art scene of a room at night with a few candles to show the effect. There are no light sources in this 3d image and it is flat and boring.

  2. Step 2

Add base lights. First, you want to add lights that will set the mood in your 3d image. You can add them manually or choose a set from your content that has the right mood you want set for your Daz Studio 3d scene. In this case, I chose to go the manual route. I placed a single distant light outside the window (colored blue) to give the 3d scene the feeling of moonlight coming through the window.

  3. Step 3

Make it shine! The moonlight set the mood, but the candles on the table should be giving off a glow as well and they are not. To make your 3d image more realistic, manually add a point light for each candle flame. In Daz Studio 3d, the manual lights are located on the toolbar at the top of the screen.

  4. Step 4

Create the glow. Place each point light as near the center of each flame as you can. This is done by using the Trans X,Y,Z options in the Parameters tab of Daz Studio. From the surfaces tab, choose the candle flame. Under the Advanced tab, set the reflection to 100% and make it a nice candle color like bright orange. Change the lighting model to Metallic.

  5. Step 5

Make it shine. On the Scene tab in Daz Studio, choose one of the point lights. Go to the the Parameters tab. Give it a Deep Shadow Map. Change the Color to a bright yellow. You can also adjust the intensity to make the it stronger or lighter. Repeat this step for each point light in the Scene tab. See image for detail.

  6. Step 6

Render the image. Click the render button located on the top Daz Studio 3d tool bar. Your candles should now glow brightly and give off a more realistic shine on the surrounding objects. Your 3d art will have a lot more personality and dimension. Not so flat and boring.

Tips & Warnings
  • To give your entire Daz Studio 3d scene an even softer glow, you can use Adobe Photoshop to soften the image.
  • Precise placement of the point lights is crucial.
