Get a step by step description how to install plywood floating subfloor over concrete

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic moisture barrier, plywood, compresor, stapler, saw,
  1. Step 1

    Clean the subfloor so it is smooth, you will be installing plywood over the concrete subfloor.Test the moisture content in the concrete.

  2. Step 2

    If the moisture is high you might need to apply the moisture barrier, this is a mastic that comes in the backet you can trwoel it on the concrete. allow to dry.

  3. Step 3

    Unfold the moisture plastic barrier and staqple it to the wall about 3 inches high, this will be covered by baseboards, if the sheet of the plastic is not as big as the room overlap at least 3 feet.

  4. Step 4

    ley the 1/2 CDX-KD plywood in the entire room, leave the space of 1/8 of an each between the each sheet of the plywood.

  5. Step 5

    Put a top layer of the plywood 1/2 thick CDX-KD in the diagonal patterns so the plywood is staggered. Staple the plywood together make sure to use the staple 3/4 not longer so you don't pinch the plastic. You can install hardwood floor over this plywood, this can be solid hardwood floor or engineered.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure the concrete slub is leveled, if you want your hardwood floor to be perfectly leveld start from the bery bottom
  • All power tools can be dangerous, use it with caution.
