How to Tell If a Magnavox TV Is Digital

The government and television stations spent billions of dollars warning customers that their analog televisions would lose their pictures once the digital conversion was completed, unfortunately simply looking at a Magnavox television sets isn't enough to determine if they are digital units or analog. Knowing a TV's output type can save you time.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Check Your Magnavox user manual, the broadcast type should show either Analog, Digital, or High Definition. High Definition is a higher end digital signal and is therefore completely acceptable for broadcasting purposes.

  2. Step 2

    Call Magnavox directly at 1-800-705-2000. They are open the following hours: Monday-Saturday from 8am - 11pm EST and Sunday from 9am until 6pm. Give the customer service representative your model and they can tell you the output type for your system.

  3. Step 3

    Visit the official support website for Magnavox Support. In the "Search" box type in your Televisions Model Number. For instance try typing in model number 42MF337B/37 and conduct the search. At the bottom of the page after the search you'll see the model number appear, click on the link to be brought to the FAQ page at which point one of the FAQ will read "Is my TV digital ready? Can it receive over-the-air digital broadcast channels?" click on that link to find out if the model number you searched for is digital.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sometimes the outside of your TV box will mention if your TV is digital, while newly released models are all digital thanks to U.S. regulations.
  • Electronics sites while usually correct in their specs are not necessarily always right, be sure to check multiple sources to determine your TV's output type.
