How to Make Stocking Cap Wigs
Wigs made from stocking caps are typically made from yarn and are perfect for Halloween costumes for when kids play dress-up, or for a theater performance when someone is playing the part of a rag doll. They're simple enough that you can make them while sitting on the sofa watching TV, but they require a lot of patience and a lot of time. The investment of time it takes to make a yarn wig is well worth the effort when you see the results.
Things You'll Need
- Knitted stocking cap in the color you want your wig
- Yarn the same color (or as close as you can get) to the stocking cap
- Crochet hook

1
Make a couple of test "hanks" first. Cut two pieces of yarn in the lengths you believe you want the hair on your wig to be.
-
2
Insert the crochet hook through the top of the cap to the underside and grab one of the pieces of yarn in the middle. Pull that end through the cap, and hold the middle of the yarn secure with your thumb or finger on the cap's underside while you pull the other end through to the top. Tie the hank in place in a knot to secure it. If the length is right, start on the rest of the cap.

3
Repeat Step 2 for each piece of yarn until the entire hat is covered with yarn.
-
4
Try on the cap, and only then cut the yarn in the front to resemble bangs, or tie it so it is not hanging in your face.
-
5
Check over your yarn wig carefully for any open spots, and fill them.
