Use Cigar Humidors

A humidor is a must for any cigar lover. Not only is it a necessity for storing cigars in the short-term, it can also be used to age cigars for many years, thereby improving their flavors. However, you can't just store your cigars in a brand new humidor without seasoning the wood, or else your cigars will dry out. Once seasoned, your humidor will be ready to store and age your cigars for as long as you need.

Instructions

  1. How to Use Cigar Humidors

    • 1

Dampen a clean cloth with distilled water. Wet the cloth just enough so that it is soaked through but not dripping water.

    • 2

Wipe down the inside of the humidor with the damp cloth. This will season the cedar and ensure the humidity level within your humidor remains constant.

    • 3

Place the wet cloth inside the humidor on top of a piece of plastic wrap. Make sure the cloth is not touching the wood.

    • 4

Fill the humidor's humidification device with distilled water. Wipe off any excess moisture from the outside of the humidification device and place it back in the humidor.

    • 5

Close the humidor and allow it to sit for 24 hours. This will allow the cedar inside the humidor to absorb moisture and season further.

    • 6

Wipe down the inside of the humidor with the cloth a second time. Close the humidor without the cloth inside and wait another 24 hours.

    • 7

Place your cigars inside the humidor.

    • 8

Maintain the proper level of humidity within your humidor. Cigars should be stored at room temperature with a humidity level between 68 and 72 percent. Add more distilled water to your humidification device when the humidity levels in your humidor fall out of this range.

    • 9

Allow your cigars to age in your humidor. You can enjoy your cigars without aging them, but giving them at least two to three months in your humidor will greatly improve the cigar's flavors.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your humidor away from vents, air conditioners, open windows and heaters which can negatively affect the humidity levels of your humidor.

  • Never mix flavored cigars with other cigars in the same humidor.
