Step 1
** Create a simple tie around headband **
Follow these simple steps to create a tie-around headband simply and easily using just a simple piece of ribbon.
A. Take a long piece of fabric ribbon - at least 1.5 the length of your head. (Ribbon can be or any fabric, texture, color and width)
B. Pull ribbon around your head
C. Tie in a bow at the nape of your neck
D. Let the long ends of the headband run down the top of your neck or cut off the ends of the ribbon if you do not want the ribbon to show beyond the headband
E. For added flair, tie the headband on the side of your head (under your ear) instead of by the nape of your neck
HINT: Stock up on many styles and colors or ribbons and use this method to quickly create a headband that matches any outfit you wear. -
Step 2
** Create a triple colored tie around headband **
Follow the same step 1, but instead of just using one ribbon, braid 3 ribbons together. It is best to use 3 thin ribbons. Simply braid them together and tie them at the nape of the neck or on the side of the head. If you are wearing an outfit with a few distinct colors, this is a great way to tie your whole look together. -
Step 3
** Create an easy elastic headband **
A. Take a piece of elastic and pull it around your head until the elastic is snug and a bit tight
B. Tie the elastic at the nape of your neck in a bow or knot
C. With a pen or marker, mark the elastic where the elastic meets the bottom of each ear
D. Measure the length of the elastic from one mark to the next (done in step C).
E. Cut the ribbon about 1 inch longer than the length measured in step D.
F. Tuck about 1/4 - 1/2 inch under at each end of the ribbon and use the hot glue gun to secure in place. This will ensure the ribbon does not fray at the ends.
G. Take your piece of ribbon and, using a glue gun, glue it to the elastic starting at one marking (done in step C) and ending at the other.
H. Decorate the headband with sequins, glitter, paint, bows, etc.
HINT: If you plan on wearing the headband frequently, tie the elastic in a bow so that you can easily tighten it as it stretches out. -
Step 4
** Create an easy and inexpensive decorative plastic headband **
If you would like a headband that takes the shape of your head made of plastic, use the following steps:
A. Buy an inexpensive basic plastic headband with no decorations, ribbon or material covering.
B. Run a piece of fabric ribbon over the length of the headband (from the bottom of one end, up the top, and down the bottom of the other end).
C. Lengthen the ribbon about another inch beyond the length of the headband (in step B) and cut.
D. Tuck about 1/2 inch of ribbon under one side of the headband and secure with a glue gun.
E. Using the glue gun, continue with the side glued to the headband and glue the ribbon to the top of the headband all across the length.
F. When you reach the end of the headband, tuck the remaining ribbon underneath and secure with the glue gun.
G. Decorate the headband with sequins, glitter, paint, bows, etc.
