Instructions

    • 1

Measure the shower curtain you'll be making the canvas liner for. You'll need your liner to be the same size as the curtain. Once you've taken your measurements, add 2 inches to the length and width. These extra inches are for the seam allowances. Count all the openings in the existing curtain where it hangs off the shower rod. You'll need to know this so you can purchase the correct number of grommets.

Purchase your canvas fabric and a grommet kit. You can purchase canvas fabric that is made specifically for outdoor use, but can still be used inside. This type of fabric has been treated to be water resistant. If using other types of canvas fabric, you can purchase water resistant spray, and spray it over your fabric. The grommet kit will come with everything you'll need to install them---the grommets and a device to install them. Make sure you have enough grommets to install on your canvas liner.

    • 3

Lay your canvas on a flat surface and measure out the area you will need for the liner, marking the area so you'll know where to make your cuts. Cut the canvas to the size of your measurements.

    • 4

Fold over the outer edges towards the wrong side of the fabric, 1 inch. Pin the edges down and sew a seam around the whole liner. Your edges should now have a finished look to them.

    • 5

Measure the distance between the openings for the hangers, in your existing shower curtain. You'll need to know this so you'll install the grommets in the exact area on the canvas liner. Mark your canvas where each grommet will be installed.

    • 6

Make a tiny cut, not as big as the opening in the grommet, where each mark is on the canvas liner. Place one half of each set of grommets, on each side of the fabric over the cut and use the grommet installer to attach them to the canvas liner. Place the end of the installer over the grommets and gently squeeze together. If you don't have an installer, you can also use a pair of pliers. Be careful not to squeeze too hard or you'll smash the grommet. Repeat this step until you've installed all the grommets needed for the liner. Your canvas shower curtain liner is now completed.
