Bamboo is a simple plant that can add a natural, bohemian feel to your home. It is easy to care for, and can be planted in a couple of different ways. One of the main reasons why these plants are popular is because of their unique shape and the fact that they symbolize luck and good fortune.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bamboo
  • Rocks/Soil
  • Vase/Decorative container
  • Fertilizer
  1. Step 1

Select young canes that are rooted in water, and try to choose the clumping varieties. These can be found at your local plant shop and even some large chain grocery stores with flower departments carry them.

  2. Step 2

To grow a bamboo plant in water, fill a container with decorative stones and add water. The water will need to be replaced on a regular basis.

  3. Step 3

If you prefer to use soil, choose a large container that has holes for drainage. Fill the container with loose, rich soil and add peat moss over the top.

  4. Step 4

Place your bamboo plant in partial or full light. As long as you remember to water it, your bamboo should live for quite a while.

  5. Step 5

Add an all-purpose fertilizer to your soil-planted bamboo to ensure that it gets enough nutrients.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a decorative look, purchase a twisted bamboo and use marbles instead of rocks when planting it in water.
  • When the soil dries out, it's time to water the bamboo so it doesn't die. Keep your pets away from the plant so it doesn't get its leaves chewed off.
