Making your own foam poster board is an inexpensive project. The actual work involved will take minutes. The majority of the time on this project will be spent waiting for the glue to dry. Foam poster board is used commonly in school projects, work presentations, picture boards and other craft projects. You can use any color poster board when making foam poster board, depending on what you plan to use the foam poster board for.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Two pieces of poster board
  • one piece of 1/4-inch foam
  • X-Acto knife
  • White craft glue
  • Craft brush
  • Heavy books
  1. Step 1

Cut the foam with the X-Acto knife so it is the exact same size as the poster board you purchased.

  2. Step 2

Lay one piece of poster board on a hard flat surface. Cover the poster board with the craft glue using the craft brush. Make sure you take the glue all the way to the edges of the poster board and into the corners.

  3. Step 3

Lay the foam on top of the glue. Make sure all the sides line up and then press down firmly on the foam. Lay several large heavy books on top of the foam until the glue dries. Check the bottle of glue for specific drying time.

  4. Step 4

Remove the books when the glue is dry. Use the craft brush to apply a coat of the craft glue to the top of the foam. Make sure you cover the entire surface. Spread the glue all the way to the sides and all four corners.

  5. Step 5

Lay the second piece of poster board on top of the glue. Line up all the sides and press down firmly. Lay the books back on top of the poster board until the glue dries completely.

  6. Step 6

Remove the books when the glue is dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Phone books work well for this application.
  • Craft glue will work best. If you try to use hot glue, it will start to dry before you are ready.
