A futon is a functional piece of furniture that can save you space in a small room. It can be folded down into a bed, and then folded into a couch during the day. Folding a futon into the couch is easy and quick.

From Quick Guide: Futons 101
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Grip one end of front side of the futon and have a second person grab the other end. If you are using only one person, grip it in the middle.

  2. Step 2

Hold the other side of the futon, which will become the back of the couch, with your other hand, and have your friend do the same. If you're folding it alone, grip the middle of this side with your free hand.

  3. Step 3

Pull up on the back side, and push down on the front to make it easier to fold. The futon should begin to fold in half.

  4. Step 4

Push on the center of the futon if it does not want to fold. Pull on one side while pushing until it starts to fold, then resume pulling on the back side.

  5. Step 5

Pull until the futon has been pulled into an upright position. It will now function as a couch. To transform it back into a bed, simply push the back side down again.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remove the futon mattress if you are having a hard time getting the frame to fold, and replace it after you have folded it into place.
