Installing your car seat properly will keep your child safe.

It is estimated that up to 80 percent of car seats are used incorrectly. For the safety of your child, it is imperative that you install your Britax Boulevard Convertible car seat correctly. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when installing any car seat.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Britax Boulevard car seat
  • Boulevard instruction manual
  • Vehicle's owner's manual

Forward-Facing Installation -- LATCH (for children more than 1 year of age and 20 pounds)

  1. Step 1

Place the car seat in the vehicle in the forward-facing position at a LATCH ("Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children") location. Loosen the lower LATCH straps and the upper tether strap.

  2. Step 2

Plug the lower LATCH components into the LATCH hooks in your vehicle. Refer to your owner's manual for help if you cannot find the LATCH hooks.

  3. Step 3

Clip the tether strap to your vehicle's tether hook. Again, if you cannot find the tether hook, refer to your car's owner's manual.

  4. Step 4

Tighten the LATCH straps and the tether strap. The car seat should not move more than an inch in any direction.

  5. Forward-Facing Installation -- Seatbelt (for children more than 1 year of age and 20 pounds)

  6. Step 1

Place the car seat on the vehicle seat in the forward-facing position. Open the forward-facing lock-off clip on the side of the car seat away from the buckle. Loosen the tether strap.

  7. Step 2

Pull the seat belt out and thread it through the seat belt slots, over the LATCH bar. Fasten the buckle, making sure that it clicks shut firmly.

  8. Step 3

Put your knee into the car seat to push it into the seat of the car. Pull on the lap section of the belt to take up any slack. Pull on the shoulder section of the belt to continue to eliminate any slack in the belt. As you do this, be sure to thread the shoulder belt portion through the lock-off furthest from the buckle.

  9. Step 4

Shut the lock-off on the shoulder belt, being sure that it clicks shut firmly. Pull and push on the car seat to be sure that it does not move in any direction.

  10. Step 5

Fasten the tether strap to the vehicle's tether hook. Pull the strap to tighten it.

  11. Rear-Facing Installation - LATCH (for children under 33 pounds)

  12. Step 1

Place the seat in the rear-facing position at the LATCH location. Loosen the LATCH and the tether straps. Fully recline the car seat.

  13. Step 2

Clip the LATCH components into your vehicle's LATCH hooks. Check your owner's manual if you cannot locate the LATCH hooks.

  14. Step 3

Install the D-hook under the front seat as directed in the Britax Boulevard's user's manual. Clip the tether strap to the D-hook.

  15. Step 4

Tighten the LATCH and tether straps while pushing the car seat into the vehicle seat. Push and pull the car seat in all directions to make sure that it does not move.

  16. Rear-Facing Installation -- Seatbelt (for children under 33 pounds)

  17. Step 1

Place the car seat in the rear-facing position. Fully recline the car seat. Loosen the tether hook. Open the rear-facing lock-off on the side opposite where the seat will be buckled.

  18. Step 2

Pass the seat belt through the rear-facing belt path. Be sure that you pass it behind the crotch buckle of the car seat.

  19. Step 3

Fasten the seat belt. Make sure that it clicks shut. While leaning on the car seat, pull the lap portion of the belt, then the shoulder portion of the belt to eliminate any slack in the belt. When doing this, be sure to pass the shoulder belt section through the lock-off.

  20. Step 4

Close the lock off on the shoulder belt. Move the car seat back and forth to be sure that it is installed tightly enough. The seat should not move in any direction.

  21. Step 5

Install the D-strap on the bottom of the front seat as shown in the Boulevard user's instructions. Clip the tether hook to the D-strap and tighten.
