How to Replace a Glass Ceramic Cooktop

While glass ceramic cooktops are efficient and easy to clean, they are also notoriously fragile. Cooktop glass can easily crack or brake. Some may believe that this is cause for a new stove completely. However, your glass ceramic cooktop is fairly easy to replace.

Things You'll Need

• Screwdriver
• Towel
• Hammer or mallet

Instructions

1. Contact your appliance manufacturer and order a new cooktop for your stove model. Ask if your warranty covers the cost of your new cooktop. Some popular manufacturer's phone numbers are:

   If you do not see your cooktop manufacturer here, go to the company's website for contact information, or look on the warranty that came with the product.

2. Unscrew the four screws in the corners of your glass cooktop. Working carefully, slide the cracked cooktop out from the frame. Be careful of sharp edges.

3. Discard the old cooktop. You may need to break the glass cooktop into smaller pieces for easy disposal. Wrap the broken cooktop in an old towel, and tap it lightly with a hammer or mallet.

4. Slide the new glass cooktop into the frame. Replace the screws in the four corners using the screwdriver. Wipe the glass cooktop down with a damp cloth.

• If you are worried about cut glass, use work gloves to handle the old cooktop.
