How to Put on a Muffler Tip

Putting a muffler tip on your car is merely a cosmetic procedure, and does not effect the performance of the vehicle in any way. The type of tip you choose will dictate how difficult it is to attach to your tailpipe.

  • Welding helmet
  • Ratchet
  • Socket
  • Rubber mallet

      For stainless steel tips without screws or a clamp, weld the tip to the tailpipe. Spot weld the tip so the end is flush with the end of the tailpipe.

      Clamp a stainless steel or aluminized tip with a slotted inlet. Place the inlet of the tip so the the outlet is flush to the outlet of the tailpipe. Tighten the clamp with a ratchet and socket.

      For stainless steel or aluminized muffler tips with screws, tighten the adjusting bolts to secure the tip in place. Position the inlet of the tip so the outlet is flush with the tailpipe.

      For a chrome tip with dimpled indentations on the inlet, use a rubber mallet to tap the tip in place. Tap the chrome tip until the outlet of the tip is flush to the outlet of the tailpipe.
