How to Word Wedding Response Cards
Wedding response cards are an easy and necessary way to keep track of the number of guests you expect to come to your most important affair. To help ensure that folks send them back, always include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with the response card enclosed with your invitation. Another way to help get them back is to keep them simple and fun.

1
Make sure people know the deadline for sending back the response cards. Put the RSVP date across the top of the card in a large typeface. "Please respond by April 1."
-
2
Design the layout. The main text of the response card should consist of a series of lines or boxes before each option, so people can respond simply by checking the box or writing a number in the line. "___ Yes, we are coming."

3
Make the acceptance detailed. In addition to a line or box for people to check to indicate that they are coming, include another line with room to specify the number of guests and any other preferences, such as food or beverage choices. The first line could be: "___ Yes, I am delighted to come." The second line could be a blank space with: "___ number of guests will be in our party." The third could be: "We would like to dine on ___ chicken or ___ steak." Finish it off with: "We ___ will or __ will not be imbibing from the bar."
-
4
Keep the declination short and sweet. The last line in the response card should be for those wishing to decline the invitation. "___ No, we will not be attending."
-
5
If you want your personality to shine through, add some humor to the lines. "We would like to gorge ourselves on ___ chicken or ___ steak." "___ Yes, we intend to get drunk." A declination could include: "___ No, we cannot attend, but enclosed please find our wedding gift check for $5,000."

Tips & Warnings
Not everyone is going to appreciate the humor. Stay plain for very formal weddings. You can also make a second set of enclosure cards for your good friends who would appreciate the humorous response cards.
