How to Earn a High School Diploma at Home
Not everyone has the time of their lives at a traditional high school. In some cases, it's not even physically possible for a student to attend a traditional high school. Yet the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that those with a high school diploma earn $9,000 more a year than those who don't. So earning a diploma from home makes financial as well as academic sense.

1
Approach your school district to discuss why you want to attend high school at home. If you have a medical reason that makes attending your high school impossible (requirements vary by state; see Resources for typical regulations), the district is required by IDEA laws to help you keep up with classes through tutors and teachers. This way you can still earn a diploma from your local high school. If you do not have a medical reason to stay at home, the district still may be able to help you graduate but they are not required by law to do so.

2
Investigate your school district. Some school districts, such as such as Orange, California, and Union City, New Jersey, have online schools. There are also statewide schools such as the Florida Virtual School and the Minnesota Virtual School. This way you can attend classes online and then receive a diploma from your school district or state.

Try an online school. Christa McAuliffe Academy and Stratford Career Institute are two private, online high schools where you can earn a diploma.
