Vellum has been around for centuries. It was traditionally made from animal skin; after the skin was soaked and prepared, it was stretched over a frame and left to dry. Although animal vellum is still produced, most vellum today is made of cotton rag fibers that create a smooth, translucent paper. Vellum is a great detail to add to any card or scrapbook page. Vellum is great for special invitations, and provides a sense of quality and elegance.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut vellum to the size you want.

  2. Step 2

Use dry-clear glue to outline the edges of the back of the vellum and make an X across the back.

  3. Step 3

Flip sheet over and place over the paper where you want it.

  4. Step 4

Stick one side of the vellum down and slowly smooth it with your hand. Do not leave any air bubbles underneath.

Tips & Warnings
  • If possible, place the card or page on which the vellum was placed under a book or heavy, flat object until it's completely dry, to keep the vellum from curling up.
  • If a child is working with vellum, use child-safe scissors.
