How to Start a Cuckoo Clock
Cuckoo clocks can be a great thing to have in a home. They are very sensitive clocks and require plenty of love and care, especially when placing it up on the wall for the first time. If you never had a cuckoo clock before, you must be aware of the dos and don'ts with these particular clocks such as making sure its chains do not ever interfere with the pendulum or never turning the cuckoo clock upside down since it could damage or break it. Once you have the clock working and understand its sensitivity, then a cuckoo clock is a marvelous thing to have in a dinette or living room. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Attach the cuckoo clock to the wall. Place a nail into the wall and place the cuckoo clock onto the nail to hold it. Make sure it is unable to move around by keeping it on a wall that isn't hit or knocked by those walking near it.
-
2
Place the weights on the bottom of the chains. There should be two small weights that come with the cuckoo clock. They typically look like pine cones but they help hold the clock level, which is important for the cuckoo to tell time correctly.

3
Adjust the time. Always push the minute hand forward and never turn it backwards since it could damage the cuckoo clock.
-
4
Swing pendulum. Take the pendulum and hold it out toward the right end side of the clock. Let it go to swing toward the left side of the cuckoo clock. This will start the clock telling time.
-
5
Listen to the ticking of the clock. If the ticking is not in regular sequence, then check to see if it is level. Adjust the bottom part of the clock very gently and not by much. Continue to move it left or right until the ticking becomes regular. Otherwise the cuckoo will not come out of the clock at the right time since it will not be at the correct time.
