How to Remove an HP NC6230 Laptop DVD Drive

The HP NC6230 is a laptop computer designed for use by corporate or small-business professionals.       Save any currently open documents and exit all active applications. Check to confirm that there are no CDs or DVDs currently installed in your DVD drive. Shut down your computer. Disconnect the power cord, any attached peripheral devices and all other cables.

      Turn the laptop over and rotate it until the rear panel is facing you. Examine the underside and find the battery-lock release latch located above the battery bay, near the right edge of the laptop. Slide the battery-lock latch to the right. Locate the battery-release latch to the left of the battery-lock latch; slide the latch to the right and remove the battery.

      Examine the right edge of the laptop. Find the screw hole located underneath the MultiBay; if there is a security screw located within, remove it.

      Examine the front panel of the DVD drive. Push the left edge of the front panel inward; this will unlock the DVD drive from the MultiBay.

      Grip the front of the DVD drive and pull it toward you. Slide the drive completely out of the MultiBay and set it aside. Removal is now complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prior to removal, prepare a clean work surface, preferably with a 1-inch layer of shock-proof padding; this will minimize the risk of cosmetic damage and broken components.

  • If your DVD drive is still operational, store it in an anti-static bag and save it for use as a backup, or for installation in a different computer.

  • If you have left the laptop on for an extended period of time prior to beginning the removal process, be aware that the DVD drive may be hot to the touch.

  • Avoid touching any of the connectors on your DVD drive or inside the laptop.

  • Before handling your DVD drive, ground yourself by touching a nearby metal surface, such as the back panel of your laptop.

  • Avoid shaking, striking or dropping your DVD drive, as the internal components are very delicate.
