How to Grow Himrod Grape Vines

Himrod grapes are a seedless variety. The grapes form in clusters and turn yellow when they are ripe. Himrod grapes are medium sized, crisp and sweet. The fruit peaks in late August, and can withstand cold winter temperatures. A mature grape vine can yield about 15 lbs. of grapes per year.

• Rake

1. Choose a location to plant your Himrod grape vines. Make sure the area gets a lot of sunshine and has a trellis or fence that the vines can cover.

2. Prepare the soil--preferably on a slope, so water runs off. Break up the soil well and add some sand. The soil must drain well so water doesn't cause root rot.

3. Dig a hole at least 1 foot wide to give the vine roots room to grow. Place a Himrod grape vine cutting into the hole carefully. Try not to disturb the roots. Cover the vine roots completely with 2 inches of dirt.

4. Water the vines thoroughly without drowning them. Keeping the ground moist until the roots are established is especially important in dry climates.

Tips & Warnings

• Water your Himrod grape vines in the early morning or late evening. This allows the ground to absorb the water before the sun evaporates the moisture.

• Plant your grape vines after the frost for best results.
