How to Make a Cigar Humidor
A humidor is an essential item for any cigar lover, as it's necessary to store multiple cigars for a long period of time. However, the cost of a wooden humidor can be prohibitive, often in the hundreds of dollars, and purchasing a humidor to store all of your cigars can get very expensive. The following steps will allow you to build your own large, functional humidor for a fraction of the cost of a wooden humidor.

- Drill
- Small plastic container
- Propylene glycol (PG)
- Distilled water
- Water-absorbent floral foam
- 54-quart cooler
- Digital thermometer with hygrometer

Drill holes in the top and sides of the plastic container. Do not drill any holes in the bottom, and leave some untouched space along the bottom edges of the sides. This will provide the moisture somewhere to go if you accidentally overfill your floral foam.

Cut a piece of the floral foam that's slightly smaller than the dimensions of the plastic container.

Mix 1/4 cup of distilled water with 1/4 cup of propylene glycol (PG).

Pour the PG solution onto the floral foam. The floral foam should be completely damp, but be sure not to soak it so much that it's dripping.

Place the floral foam into the plastic container and seal the container. This is your humidifying device.

Arrange the plastic container, thermometer with hygrometer, and your cigars in their boxes inside the cooler. Attach the lid and allow several days to pass for the humidor to reach 70 percent humidity.

Tips & Warnings
You should be able to find propylene glycol at any pharmacy.
Be sure to remove the lids from your cigar boxes before storing them in your humidor.
You'll need to add more distilled water to your floral foam after several months. Keep an eye on your hygrometer, and note when the humidity drops for consecutive days.
