How to Make a Dust Mask

Protect yourself from small particles by making a temporary dust mask with an undershirt.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1
    Discard the top of the undershirt.
     
    Discard the top of the undershirt.

    Cut across the top of the undershirt, from armpit to armpit. Make another cut straight up from the bottom of the undershirt. Discard the top portion of the shirt. The remainder of the undershirt will be approximately 3 feet long and 16 inches wide.

  2. Step 2

    Fold the length of the undershirt in half to give it double thickness. Lay the fabric flat and cut from the middle of the side toward the center, stopping within 5 inches of the center. Repeat on the opposite side of the undershirt, stopping within 5 inches of the center.

  3. Step 3

    Soak the fabric in water and ring out excess moisture.

    Center the strip over your nose and mouth. Fasten the top strips around the base of your head. Tie the bottom strips in a knot on the top of your head.
