Install a Soap Dish on a Tile Wall

Having a soap dish in the shower or above the tub is important. Without it, the soap sits in a puddle and disintegrates while leaving a trail of soap scum that becomes slippery and can cause you to fall. Having a soap dish over the bathroom sink frees up the sink or counter top, and you can purchase soap dishes to match the ceramic tile. Installing a soap dish is not very difficult and takes less than an hour to complete. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Install a Soap Dish on a Tile Wall

    • 1

Clean the area where the soap dish will be installed with denatured alcohol so the adhesive has a clean surface to adhere to. Mark the area where you want to install your soap dish. If you are installing over a tub or tub/shower, it should be within easy reach if you are sitting in the tub. If you are installing in a shower, you should not have to bend over to reach it and it should be out of the way of direct spray from the shower. Over a sink, the dish should not interfere with turning on and off the water knobs.

    • 2

Place silicone caulk on the back of the soap dish. Place it on the wall and put a level on the dish part. Adjust the dish to get it level. The silicone adheres quickly, so you will need to do this fast.

    • 3

Place painters tape on the dish to keep it from shifting. Allow the silicone to dry for about 12 hours before removing it.

    • 4

Place silicone around the outside edges of the soap dish and smooth out with a wet finger. Do not use for at least 24 hours. If the soap dish is in a shower, don't use the shower until the next day.
