How to Refurbish Computers
Computer systems, such as desktops, can get old as well as have parts that break or need to be replaced on occasion. Many times a computer needs to be completely refurbished in order for it to work properly or for it to be sold. Refurbishing a computer requires making sure all of the components work and the machine functions like it came from the factory. This can be accomplished by following some basic steps to make a computer run like new.

1
Take stock of the unit to assess its current condition. This includes looking for any obvious broken parts or other components that need to be replaced.
-
2
Replace any parts that are broken or are rather old. These can include replacing a CD or DVD drive as well as internal fans.

3
Reformat or replace the hard drive. A hard drive that has existing data should be reformatted to start with a clean slate, or a new one needs to be used.
-
4
Reinstall the operating system. Usually the operating system that came with the original unit should be reinstalled unless an upgrade is needed.
-
5
Make sure all of the components on the system are working. These include all USB drives, the video card and the audio.
-
6
Once the refurbished system checks out, it is ready to use. A refurbished machine should run nearly the same as it did when it was new.

Have a supply of spare parts to use if they're needed when refurbishing a computer.
If a hard drive is not reformatted or wiped correctly, it can still contain old data.
