Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure
- Yardstick
-
Step 1
Look at the timer on the dishwasher to make sure the dishwasher's cycle ran its full course. If there is still some time left on the timer, it is normal to have some water on the bottom that still has not drained.
-
Step 2
Check the disposal inlet to make sure it is removed. If the dishwasher is connected to a disposal, the inlet in the tube of the disposal leading to the dishwasher must be removed. If it is not, water will back up in the dishwasher and will not be able to properly drain. The disposal inlet looks like a small plug.
-
Step 3
Use a tape measure or a yardstick to measure how high off the ground the drain hose for the dishwasher is. These hoses should be elevated at least 32 inches. If it is not 32 inches high, water could fall back into the tub after getting in the tube.
-
Step 4
Check the disposal and the drain to see if there are any food items inside that are blocking the flow of water. Remove them and run the water in the dishwasher for a few seconds to see if the water drains any better. If there is an increase in drainage, continue to work on removing the food.
-
Step 5
Check the circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker has flipped, the dishwasher will not be able to finish its cycle because it isn't getting power. Flip the circuit breaker back to "on" and see if the draining process restarts.
