How to Make MMORPGs
Many game designers wish they were the ones that created World of Warcraft, but the world of massive multiplayer online gaming is a large one and open to many. Do you have the next great idea to create a MMORPG to rival WoW or will you fall like EverQuest? Creating a blockbuster MMORPG isn't an easy task and neither is getting the funding and backing to do it.

Get an idea. You can't have a game without a great idea and it cannot simply be a rough outline. You need a completely fleshed out mythos, character structure, plot, character development and quest outline before you do anything else.

Find financing. Unless you want all your ideas to be credited to some giant corporation, you're going to want to start up your own game company. For that, you will have to shop your idea around to various venture capitalists. A fully developed MMORPG takes years to develop and millions of dollars to create.

Develop your team. Once you have your financing ready to go, its time to get some employees. You are going to need programmers, writers, game designers, graphic designers, producers, voice over actors and a janitor to clean up all your mess.

Grab your tech. Programmers can't write code if they don't have the technology. You will need to invest in major computers with plenty of RAM and processing speed to handle the various gaming and graphics programs you will also need to buy. Don't forget your studios, lawyers for branding, public relations for promotions and manufacturers.

Develop the game. It will take hundreds of man hours, thousands of lines of code and more than a few sleepless nights to develop your MMORPG. You will have to go through alpha and beta versions before the bugs have been successfully exterminated and you are ready to ship it out.

Seek a distributor. So you finally a polished MMORPG, now what? You need to scout the Consumer Electronics Show and Game Developers Conference to show off your wares to distributors. If you are lucky, a Blizzard or Vivendi will take a shine to your game and they will distribute it to the masses.
