Instructions

    • 1

Choose your ribbon. Red is the standard color for a Snow White hair bow, but you can choose any shade of red that you want. A true, bright red with blue undertones is ideal and looks flattering on all skin tones. Grosgrain ribbon (which is slightly textured with lines) is great to work with because it stays put and doesn't slip off hair. You can choose the width of ribbon you prefer, but a small to medium width works best for mimicking Snow White's hair bow as seen in the animated film and illustrated stories. All together, you should have around a yard of ribbon.

Measure the head of whomever will wear the Snow White hair bow. You want the headband portion of the piece to fit snug enough that it does not slip or move while wearing, even for a long duration of time.

    • 3

Measure out the ribbon so it coincides with the measurement taken of the head. Cut the ribbon a bit longer. Place the ribbon around the head and pull it the tightest it can go without feeling constricting or uncomfortable. Create a crease in the ribbon at that spot by folding it.

    • 4

Sew the band portion of your Snow White hair bow at the crease to ensure you have a tight fit. Use red thread to create a flawless finish for the headband.

    • 5

Create the bow by tying the ribbon as you would at the top of your shoelace. Be sure the center is flat and that each "ear" of the bow is the same size, as are the "tails." To perfect the bow, you can cut at a diagonal in either direction (just make sure each end is opposite, so you have both facing out or inwards) for a polished look.

    • 6

Attach the bow to the band. The base of the band is where you sewed it together, so on the opposite end of that, sew your bow. Remember the bow should hit the top center of the head when the hair bow is worn.
