There are several ways a Blackberry Smartphone can be unlocked. In some cases, phones can be unlocked by the carrier; other times they can be unlocked by searching for their unlocked codes online.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Get Your Carrier to Unlock Your Blackberry

  1. Step 1

Call your carrier after 90 days of consecutive use.

  2. Step 2

Ask for the unlock code for your cell phone. This code usually involves pressing a set of keys in a specific order. Most carriers provide unlocked codes after 90 days if requested.

  3. Step 3

Enter the unlock code exactly as provided. Turn your phone off and then back on. It should now be unlocked and ready to use.

  4. Unlock Your Blackberry by Purchasing the Unlock Code

  5. Step 1

Search Google.com or any other search engine by using the words "Unlock Code" followed by your phone's manufacturer and model number, for example "Unlock Code Blackberry Storm."

  6. Step 2

Call a cell phone retail store as a second alternative. Ask them if they can provide an unlock code. Codes from e-tailers and retailers typically cost anywhere from $5 to $15 depending on the phone and the company.

  7. Step 3

Enter the code provided by the store you purchased it from. The unlock steps should match those provided by a cell phone carrier. Simply type the steps in the same manner to unlock your device.

Tips & Warnings
  • Unlocked Blackberry Smartphones can be purchased online, however the cost of purchasing a device in that state is considerably more expensive than a carrier unlocked device. However, already unlocked devices require absolutely no contract terms.
  • Most unlocked devices are not supported by carriers. While they will work on their networks, you will have to find outside sources for troubleshooting and warranty options.
