How to Connect My Dell Printer to a Gateway Tower

      Turn the computer and printer off.

      Take the square end of the USB cable. Find the square USB port on the back of your Dell printer. It will be marked with the USB symbol as shown in the diagram. Insert the square end of the USB cable into the USB port on the printer. Be sure it is firmly connected.

      Find a USB port on the back of your Gateway tower. This will be a rectangular port with the same USB symbol. Take the other end of the USB cable, which should also be rectangular, and insert it in the computer USB port. Again, be sure it is firmly connected.

      Check that your printer is plugged in using the supplied power cable. If not, plug the not-pronged end into the power port in the back of the printer. This port will be labeled as a power port with positive and negative signs on either side of a circle.

      Turn on your printer and Gateway tower. Upon booting, Windows should recognize the new hardware. If an installation CD came with your printer, insert it into your CD drive at this time. It will run automatically, but if it does not, double-click the CD drive icon under My Computer. Follow the instructions to set up the software that accompanies your printer.
